is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Patrol Agent in Charge
Gayle Echelmeyer-Simon of the Jacksonville Border Patrol
Station who passed away after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

PAIC Gayle Echelmeyer-Simon began her career with the Border Patrol when she entered on duty November 28, 1993, as a member of the 264th Session of the Border Patrol Academy. Gayle was assigned to the Brownfield Border Patrol Station, San Diego Sector, after she graduated from the Academy.
On October 12, 1997, Gayle was promoted to Supervisory Border Patrol Agent and later promoted to Field Operations Supervisor within the Brownfield Station. On December 25, 2005, Gayle promoted to the position of Patrol Agent in Charge of the Jacksonville Border Patrol Station, Miami Sector, in Jacksonville Florida. PAIC Gayle Echelmeyer-Simon was the first female Patrol Agent in Charge in the history of the Jacksonville Border Patrol Station.
Gayle was a member of the Peer Support Team and led an exemplary career life, respected by all that knew and worked with her. She was also a Lifetime Member of Women in Federal Law Enforcement (WIFLE).
PAIC Gayle Echelmeyer-Simon had celebrated her birthday on January 01, 2009, sadly just a few weeks before her untimely death. Gayle was preceded in death by her father, and leaves behind a 26 year old son, James. Gayle is also survived by her mother, Sharon, and two brothers, Derek and Darrell.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2009, in Jacksonville, Florida, at the Community of Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
