Recognizing the enormous devastation to our fellow citizens in the Gulf States, WIFLE has made a financial contribution to the American Red Cross
(www.redcross.org). The Executive Committee encourages all WIFLE members and friends to open their wallets and hearts by making their own contributions to any recognized legitimate charitable organization to assist in this relief effort.
In addition, WIFLE (Women in Federal Law
Enforcement), NCWP (National
Center for Women and Policing), and EVAW International (End Violence Against
Women International) have partnered to seek donations of
items to be distributed to the various law
enforcement professionals in the area devastated by Hurricane
Katrina
The need to get
basic items to the precincts cannot be overstated. Items such
as blue or black cargo pants; combat boots and socks;
flashlights and batteries; T- shirts that say POLICE; toiletries such as deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, razors, shaving cream; OTC meds such as aspirin, insect repellant,
feminine hygiene products, eye drops, etc.; underwear - men's and
women's all sizes- are desperately needed.
The water is so polluted that when
an officer has to get into it, their clothing and boots cannot
be re-used because they have no way to wash them. Cuts on hands fester and awful infections set in. Many of the officers have not had the ability to change clothes or shower since the hurricane hit.
You are encouraged to send supplies directly to Sgt. Linda
Law (Louisiana Department of Justice, State Attorney General's Office)
who is stationed in New Orleans, using the address below. Sgt. Law is coordinating
through the local
Fraternal Order of Police to distribute items directly to law
enforcement.
Sgt. Linda
Law
8359 Fortier Lane
Prairieville, LA. 70769
DO
NOT SEND CASH to Sgt. Law; she is only coordinating
tangible items.
PLEASE
help us get critically needed items to the Police Departments
which are struggling with the Katrina Hurricane disaster.
Give what you can. No
donation is too small and all donations are greatly needed and
sincerely appreciated.
