New Benefits for WIFLE Members  (March 2008)

As WIFLE members know, there are already great benefits associated with being a member of WIFLE, including leadership training, advanced skills seminars, news about new career opportunities, networking, and important job-related and life-related information of interest to all women in federal law enforcement. Now, there are even more advantages to enrolling as a member.

Professional Liability Program. *
WIFLE is offering a Professional Liability Program for its members called FEDS Professional Liability Program. The current annual cost is $270.00, but with a paid-in-full current membership, WIFLE members will receive a reduced rate of $260.00 per year.  Just type in “WIFLE” in the discount code section when you go on line at www.fedsprotection.com to purchase FEDS.  FEDS will confirm membership with WIFLE before issuing the discount.

Free Counseling/Legal Consultation up to ˝ Hour. *
WIFLE members now have access to a free legal consultation for up to ˝ hour on issues relating to careers, employment, and workplace matters.  WIFLE members may seek the free consultation for up to 1/2 hour by making an appointment and indicating you are a WIFLE member in good standing.  Any further agreement between the attorney and a WIFLE member is solely at the discretion of the member; is wholly voluntary on the part of the Member; and does not involve, obligate or effect WIFLE.  WIFLE does not warrant or guarantee any specific outcome. Members Only Sponsored Scholarship. 
Starting next year on February 1, 2009, all regular and associate members are eligible each year to sponsor one full-time student pursuing a law enforcement-related degree for a WIFLE scholarship.  This new yearly scholarship will be in the amount of $1500.00 and will be selected from the total number of member-sponsored applications received each year.  This scholarship award is in addition to the regular WIFLE scholarships presented every year that are subject to more extensive criteria.  The new members-only sponsored scholarship is also open to members themselves who meet the criteria.  Members may sponsor either themselves or one individual for the new scholarship each year. 

To be eligible for the members-only sponsored scholarship, an applicant must submit an entry, signed by a WIFLE member, certifying that the applicant: (1) physically attends and is a full-time student at an accredited four-year college or university; or is currently enrolled full time in a fully accredited community college with the 
intention of transferring to a four-year degree program; (2) has completed at least one full academic year of college work at an accredited college or university or community college; (3) maintains a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average (GPA); and (4) majors in Criminal Justice or a related discipline such as social sciences, public administration, computer science, finance, linguistic arts, chemistry, physics, etc., leading to a four-year degree. Students in graduate and postgraduate programs are also eligible.  However, students pursuing Associate degrees are not eligible unless, as stated above, they fully articulate in the application their intention to transfer to a four-year program.

Please spread the word to your fellow workers in law enforcement about the many benefits of being a WIFLE member.  WIFLE memberships are offered at a discount if you sign up or renew for a 3-year period. Regular members can join or renew for 3 years and receive a reduced rate of $125.00 – a savings of $25.00. Associate members can join or renew for 3 years at $80.00 and also save $25.00.  And don’t forget, you may join as a WIFLE Lifetime Member for $500.00.
