WIFLE partnered with the National Center for Women and Policing along with the British Embassy that hosted a human trafficking seminar on November 29, 2005 in Washington, D.C.
This is the second time WIFLE has been involved in this type of specialized training and will continue to draw attention to the plight of trafficked victims internationally. Productive meetings that bring diverse disciplines together will continue to raise the awareness and commitment of law enforcement worldwide to the significance of the problem. Last year’s training seminar was hosted by the Australian Embassy and David McLean represented Australia at this year’s seminar on an international panel.
The cooperation of the international law enforcement community has been wonderful. Jayne Lord of the British Embassy and Jim Fitzpatrick, Counsellor  Drugs and Crime, were the seminar hosts and arranged for Alan Charlton, Deputy Head of the Mission, to greet the 80 attendees along with keynote welcoming speaker Neil Brown, Head of Secretariat, Reflex, an agency in Britain focused on organized crime. Mr. Brown flew over to open the seminar and emphasized

WIFLE Gearing Up for 2006 Scholarship Applications
by Monica Blodgett Rocchio, Deputy Director, WIFLE

One of the goals of WIFLE is to award scholarships to those individuals interested in law enforcement careers. These careers vary but typically include criminal investigators, border agents, forensic scientists, intelligence analysts, fingerprint and firearms examiners, bomb technicians, public information officers, computer specialists, attorneys, and many related fields. Each year WIFLE awards several scholarships through a process of written application and presentation of college school transcripts. An independent panel is convened to make selections. Scholarships offered range in amounts from $500.00 to $2,000.00. The scholarship process opens annually on February 1, and the winners of the scholarships are announced at our annual training conference held in June of each year.
Information concerning the criteria and the application process for the 2006 scholarships will be posted on WIFLE’s website, www.WIFLE.org, by February 1, 2006.
WIFLE recently received a note of appreciation from one of this year’s scholarship recipients, and here’s what she had to say: “I am honored to be the award recipient of such a reputable organization that is specifically focused on the success and professional enrichment of women in federal law enforcement. This award will be a tremendous financial help as I further my education in the field of criminal justice. I am grateful to be a representative of your admirable organization.”
Numerous individuals and organizations recently made significant donations to the WIFLE Scholarship Fund, a tax-exempt 501c(3) organization, in recognition of the significant accomplishments made by Bonni G. Tischler, a founding lifetime member of WIFLE, who recently passed away. To make your own contribution to the scholarship fund, just go to http://www.wifle.org/scholarshipfund.htm for further details.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER
WIFLE President Says Farewell

by Chief of Public Affairs, S/A Sheree Mixell, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives

My one year term as President expires on December 31, 2005 and I must say this has been an exciting year for WIFLE. I have enjoyed serving on the Executive Committee as President and working as a volunteer to promote the goals of WIFLE. The entire WIFLE Executive Committee and the Executive Director and deputy Executive Director put on a fabulous conference in the beautiful Westin Hotel in Rancho Mirage, California. From all of the feedback, the attendees gave high marks to the agenda and the quality of our speakers. I thoroughly enjoyed coordinating the first ever Julie Y. Cross panel and listening to the courageous speakers talk about their life threatening experiences and how they overcame their fears and survived. They are truly remarkable women. WIFLE is fortunate to have the support from the highest levels of government. Heads of agencies and deputy heads of agencies made it their business to talk on topics relevant to the core competencies of senior executive leadership. This type of training is helpful to all ranks in federal law enforcement and all job series.

As I say my farewell be assured I am not saying good-bye to WIFLE. As a past president I will now serve on the Past President’s Council and become a very active member serving the law enforcement community. I would like to introduce you to S/A Stephanie Davis, United States Air Force, Office of Special Investigations. Stephanie has been appointed by the WIFLE board to a one year term beginning January 1, 2006. I wish Stephanie well and look forward to working with her on this year’s conference.

S/A Stephanie Davis, USAF, OSI
