Dorene Erhard
I retired in July 2005, from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), an agency of the Department of Homeland Security, after a 35-year career with the Federal Government. For 3½ years prior to my retirement, I served as the Executive Secretariat, coordinating communications within TSA and with the Department in response to actions taken, requests for briefings, and a wide variety of assignments dealing with TSA’s mission and responsibilities. Before TSA, I held a number of positions with the Treasury Department’s Office of Enforcement, including Acting Chief of Staff for the Under Secretary for Enforcement during the 2001 transition of Administrations; Senior Oversight Advisor in the Office of Professional Responsibility; and Senior Advisor to the Director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control. The first 17 years of my Federal career were with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). It was during my tenure with ATF that I served as its representative to the Interagency Committee for Women in Federal Law Enforcement and was elected Co-Chair for 1984 and 1985.

I just retired on February 3, from TSA, where I worked for the last 4 years as a Program Analyst and Human Resources Liaison in the Office of Strategic Planning and Analysis. I came to TSA after spending 28 years with the U.S. Secret Service (USSS). During my USSS career, I worked in a variety of human resources areas, including career planning, training, employee relations, staffing, and recruitment for law enforcement positions. I was actively involved with the Interagency Committee for Women in Federal Law Enforcement in the 1980’s when I served as the USSS Federal Women’s Coordinator. My involvement included assuming duties as the Interagency Committee’s Secretary for several years, co-chairing the organization’s 2nd and 3rd annual training conferences, and serving as the Interagency Committee’s Co-Chair.
Assuming Co-Editor duties for the WIFLE Executive Committee is a commitment that we both make with a great deal of pleasure. We look forward to keeping you informed about WIFLE news and bringing items of interest regarding women in law enforcement to your attention. If you have news items or suggestions for future WIFLE-Enews articles, please e-mail them to us for consideration at WIFLE@comcast.net.
Thanks to the Executive Committee for giving us this opportunity to serve you. It is good to be back with WIFLE.
