Overview of the 2007 Leadership Training Conference
Wednesday saw a surge of new excitement with the Discovery Channel's forensic investigation into The Murder of King Tut presented by Michael King and Gregory Cooper. Not only did fascination about the forensics abound but the attention to details about the life of King Tut was appreciated by attendees. Working with Congress, Creating a Culture to Excel, and the Keynote Power Panel were very well received. These sessions were extremely informative and useful not only in providing us with general information, but in giving us specific pieces of information useful in a law enforcement environment. Wednesday night was highlighted by the Annual Awards Banquet and Presentations. On Thursday, we didn't get a chance to wind down: We learned about "Compassion Fatigue", a relatively new expression in our vocabulary but a daunting issue among women in law enforcement; the Thrift Savings Plan which is a concern to all federal employees; and, Domestic Violence – When the Abuser and Victim are Both Law Enforcement Officers. Due to the inclement weather, one speaker did not make it…but in its place WIFLE designed a session that allowed all participants to breakout into groups and create personnel policies to stand up a newly created agency. This by far was very interactive and allowed for agents and support personnel to identify the needs of its employees and recommend solutions. WIFLE is following up on these recommendations and will sponsor a model policy review up on the web site.
All of the information presented in this conference exceeded our expectations. We appreciate all the sessions and presenters who made the leadership training such an overwhelming success.
Mark Your Calendars for June 24-28, 2008! WIFLE will be at the Hyatt Regency in Tampa, FL for our Ninth Annual Leadership Training.
