Women in Federal Law Enforcement (WIFLE) was established in June 1999, as a tax-exempt professional association described in Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code.  WIFLE was preceded by the Interagency Committee on Women in Federal Law Enforcement (ICWIFLE), created in 1978 by the Departments of Justice and Treasury. WIFLE was created to build upon ICWIFLE’s founding principles and to better address the future needs of women in federal law enforcement.
WIFLE is an organization of individuals working together to foster awareness of the value that women bring to law enforcement. WIFLE’s goals include recruitment, retention, and promotion of women in federal law enforcement occupations, and the continued development of an information sharing and support network. WIFLE promotes collaborative leadership styles and the development of programs and policies that balance community service with enforcement of the laws. Individuals can show their support for these objectives by becoming members of WIFLE.
The WIFLE Foundation, Inc., was established in 2006 and operates the WIFLE Scholarship Fund. The WIFLE Foundation is a tax-exempt charitable/education organization as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The Fund provides scholarships for talented students, based on their academic potential, achievement, and commitment to serving communities to meet the demands of law enforcement and to foster the professional development of those in the law enforcement profession. The WIFLE Foundation educates officials, agencies and the public about issues facing women in the law enforcement profession and recommends sound strategies and solutions for identifying, recruiting, and promoting qualified women.
The WIFLE Foundation conducts an annual training event, along with educational programs throughout the year and workshops relating to the law enforcement profession in the United States, as well as conducts research and annual Award recognition ceremonies. In addition, WIFLE supports law enforcement functions, where a charitable and educational need is demonstrated by forming coalitions with other police organizations and agencies worldwide to discuss and formulate strategies to combat violence against women. WIFLE also serves as an information and resource network for women in federal law enforcement, domestically and internationally. WIFLE is a leader in diversity, equity and inclusion in the federal law enforcement profession, a cornerstone to effectively serve communities across the country.
